- Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi raises concern over violence
- Owaisi comments on incidents, UCC, and international conflicts
Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi expressed serious concern over what he described as growing incidents of hatred and violence against Muslims in different parts of India. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president said such developments are disturbing and weaken the values of equality, justice, and fraternity guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
Owaisi made these remarks while addressing a Jalsa Youm-ul-Qur’an at the historic Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad. During his speech, he referred to recent incidents and alleged that two Muslims contesting elections in Meghalaya were reportedly killed after being accused of being Bengali speaking Muslims. He said that hatred and suspicion against Muslims are being deliberately spread by leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Meanwhile, Owaisi also referred to an incident in Dal Mandi, located in the parliamentary constituency represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to him, houses belonging to Muslims were reportedly demolished there. He questioned the action and said that citizens must be treated equally under the law.
The AIMIM president also condemned an incident involving former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah. He said that any act of intimidation or attack against political leaders must be strongly condemned in a democratic society. Later, he expressed grief over the death of 13 year old Unaz Khan, who was reportedly shot dead by his friend. Owaisi said such incidents highlight the need for greater awareness and responsibility in society.
Referring to developments in Sambhal, Owaisi alleged that a police officer warned Muslims against protesting on international issues such as the Iran conflict. “Listen, Mr. DSP. If someone takes out a rally in support of Israel, you support it and even raise slogans of ‘Jai Jai”. He said that citizens have the democratic right to express peaceful protest within the framework of the law.
Speaking on international developments, Owaisi said no nation should attack another sovereign country. He urged the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clearly state that conflicts must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He also criticised the actions of Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump, alleging that military aggression could destabilize the entire Middle East region.
During his address, Owaisi also spoke about the Uniform Civil Code. He said marriage in Islam is a contract and that Nikah is an essential part of the Islamic religion, not merely a social ritual. He referred to various marriage laws followed by different religious communities in India and stressed that every community has its own personal laws and traditions. He further asserted that through the Uniform Civil Code, Hindu law cannot be imposed upon Muslims and said religious freedom and personal laws must be respected in a pluralistic society.
