Hyderabad, August 27: An Army employee’s wife was allegedly harassed with AI generated explicit images and videos shared on social media.
The woman, a Secunderabad resident, works as cabin crew with Air India. An unidentified person allegedly used her public Instagram photographs to create the material.
Her 35 year old husband, who works with the Army in Secunderabad, approached Hyderabad Cybercrime police. He alleged that the accused created nude images and videos using his wife’s face.
According to the complaint, the accused uploaded more than 200 posts on Reddit, Instagram and Discord.
The accused allegedly circulated the manipulated content among people known to the woman. The complainant said the actions aimed to defame and extort his wife.
The complaint stated that the repeated circulation caused harassment and reputational harm to the woman.
AI Generated Images Lead to Cybercrime Probe
Hyderabad Cybercrime police registered a case after receiving the complaint. The case cites provisions of the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police invoked Sections 66 C and 67 of the Information Technology Act. They also invoked Sections 336(4) and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigators are now working to identify the accused. They are also tracing the social media accounts allegedly used to distribute the content.
Police are examining the digital trail connected with the posts and accounts. Further action will depend on evidence collected during the investigation.
The case highlights the risks of publicly available photographs being misused through digital manipulation. Authorities continue to investigate the alleged creation and circulation of the material.
