Amer Ali Khan Leads Two-Day Rally From Adilabad Against Waqf Amendment Act
· Congress MLC calls the Act unconstitutional and urges a nationwide protest
Adilabad/Hyderabad, April 14: Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan has launched a two-day protest rally from Adilabad to Hyderabad against the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. Calling the Act a serious threat to religious freedom and Muslim rights, he said the legislation violates the Constitution and must be withdrawn immediately.
The rally began on Monday from the statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in Adilabad, coinciding with Ambedkar Jayanti. Thousands of people joined the protest on foot, bikes, and cars. The rally is set to reach Hyderabad on April 15, passing through Nirmal, Nizamabad, and Kamareddy.
Amer Ali Khan said the Waqf Amendment Act gives excessive control to the government over Waqf Boards, and could allow not only officials but also private individuals and companies to take over Waqf lands. He warned that this could result in the permanent loss of properties meant for the welfare of the Muslim community.
“This Act is not just a legal change – it is a direct attack on the constitutional rights of Muslims,” he said. “It targets the autonomy of religious institutions and violates Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of religion.”

During the rally, Amer Ali Khan held a copy of the Constitution and walked alongside community elders, scholars, students, and activists. Streets were filled with slogans such as “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan” and banners reading “Withdraw the Black Law” and “Protect Waqf Lands.”
Residents welcomed the protestors with flower petals and prayers. Young students held placards demanding justice. Religious scholars reminded people of Dr Ambedkar’s vision for justice and equality.
Amer Ali Khan said this was only the beginning of a larger campaign against the Act. He announced that memorandums would be sent to the President of India, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and leaders of political parties. He also said that the Act would be legally challenged in the Supreme Court.
He demanded the immediate repeal of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025; Legal protection for Waqf lands under constitutional rights; Creation of a national committee to monitor and challenge encroachments and the recognition of Waqf lands as religious properties to stop misuse.
Amer Ali Khan criticised Muslim MPs and other elected representatives for staying silent on the issue. “You were elected with the support of the people, but you are not speaking up while their rights are being taken away,” he said. “This silence is unacceptable and will not be forgotten.”
He urged Muslims and all citizens who believe in secularism to organise rallies, hold meetings, and put pressure on the government. “This law is not just about Waqf properties. It is about weakening an entire community. If we remain silent now, we may lose our rights forever,” he warned.
Amer Ali Khan said the government is trying to make Muslims weaker in every way—socially, economically, and educationally. He said it is important to fight back to protect the rights of future generations.
The rally will end in Hyderabad with a large public meeting where senior Congress leaders, religious figures, and activists are expected to speak. Amer Ali Khan has called on all participants to stay peaceful and respectful during the rally.“This is not just my fight. This is a fight for every citizen who values the Constitution,” he said. “If we care about our children and our future, we must speak up now.” (Maxim News)
