Karimnagar, July 1: Another electric bus catches fire in Karimnagar district, triggering concern over the safety of electric public transport vehicles. The incident occurred at the Karimnagar 2 depot on Wednesday morning.
The fire reportedly broke out while staff were taking the electric bus out of the depot. Within seconds, flames spread rapidly and completely damaged the vehicle.
After noticing the fire, depot staff immediately alerted the fire department. Fire personnel reached the spot quickly and brought the flames under control. Authorities also acted swiftly to stop the fire from spreading to nearby buses.
No passengers were inside the bus at the time of the incident. As a result, no injuries were reported.
Officials have started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. They are examining whether the incident resulted from a short circuit, battery malfunction or another technical issue.
Responding to the incident, RTC Regional Manager Raju said the driver noticed smoke while moving the bus out of the depot. He added that the driver acted promptly by stopping the vehicle and informing emergency services.
Moreover, the RTC has ordered a high level inquiry into the recent incidents involving electric buses and said appropriate action would follow the findings.
