Amravathi/Hyderabad,, Sept. 16 (Maxim News): Andhra Pradesh is likely to receive rain in several areas over the next three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The Amaravati Meteorological Centre forecast light to moderate rain or showers in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema.
Some areas may also experience thunderstorms and lightning. Gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph are likely in isolated areas during the period.
Low-pressure area likely over Bay of Bengal
A cyclonic circulation over north Thailand, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, is currently prevailing. The system is likely to move towards the north Andaman Sea by the evening of September 18.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining areas by the evening of September 19. The weather system is then expected to strengthen gradually.
The system may move west-northwestwards over the following three to four days. It is likely to head towards the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts, according to the weather department.
In Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places on September 16. Thunderstorms and lightning may occur at isolated locations, along with gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph.
On September 17 and 18, light to moderate rain or showers are likely at one or two places. Gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph may also occur.
Rayalaseema is also likely to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers at some places from September 16 to 18. Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are possible, along with strong winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph.
A cyclonic circulation is currently prevailing over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Rayalaseema. It extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Another trough extends from north interior Karnataka through south interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to the Gulf of Mannar. It lies up to 0.9 km above mean sea level.
The Amaravati Meteorological Centre said these systems could continue to influence rainfall and gusty winds in parts of Andhra Pradesh. People have been advised to monitor weather updates and remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning. (Maxim News)
