It reported that the decision came after concerns were raised over the absence of suitable Muhurtas on December 20. Therefore, public representatives requested that the date be postponed. The Panchayat Raj Department considered these requests and responded positively. As a result, officials shifted the assumption of office by two days, from December 20 to December 22. The newly elected Sarpanches and Ward Members will take office on the same day across the state.

Meanwhile, the three phase Gram Panchayat elections concluded on Wednesday. Polling in the third and final phase took place in 3,752 gram panchayats and 28,410 wards. During this phase, about 53 lakh voters exercised their right to vote. Polling ended around 1 pm. Later, the counting of votes was scheduled to begin at 2 pm, with results expected to be declared in the evening.

The conclusion of the polling process marked the end of the election exercise across the state. Therefore, attention has now shifted to the formation of new local governing bodies. The new Sarpanches and Ward Members will take oath during the first meeting to be held on December 22. This meeting will formally mark the beginning of their term in office.

During the oath taking, the elected representatives will recite the prescribed pledge. The oath states, “I, the Sarpanch/Member of the Gram Panchayat —- (name of the winner)—-, do solemnly swear in the name of God/truth that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as framed by the Act and that I will faithfully discharge the duty which I am about to assume.” With this, the newly elected bodies will officially assume responsibility for local governance across Telangana.
