Delhi/Hyderabad, Oct 6 (Maxim News): A lawyer tried to throw his shoe at CJI BR Gavai in the Supreme Court today. It seems that a lawyer went to the dais where the CJI was sitting, took off his burnt shoe and tried to throw it at the judge. The incident took place during the arguments of a case.
However, the security personnel present there immediately intervened and detained the lawyer. He was taken out. The lawyer was identified as Kishore Rakesh. While being taken out of the courtroom, it seems that the lawyer raised slogans against Sanatana Dharma. The lawyer said that insulting Sanatan Dharma will not be tolerated.
CJI Gavai, however, was not discouraged by the incident. He asked the lawyers in the court to continue their arguments. CJI Gavai said that no one should be disturbed by such things, that he did not do anything, and that such incidents would not affect him. However, it is believed that this incident may have happened due to the comments made by CJI Gavai in a case a few days ago.
CJI Gavai made some comments in a case filed to reinstall the seven-legged Vishnu idol in Khajuraho. He dismissed that case and commented that he should go and pray to that god. The CJI commented in that case that you are claiming to be a valiant devotee of Vishnu, go and pray to that god, that is an archaeological site and that requires ASI permission.
There was a huge uproar on social media over CJI Gavai’s comments in the Khajuraho case. He was accused of hurting religious sentiments. However, he opened the controversy in his own style. Two days later, while responding to a case, he said that he had not insulted any religion. He said that he respects all religions and that his comments were only circulated on social media.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the central government, supported the CJI and said that in some cases, reactions on social media are different. (Maxim News)
