Auto Drivers Threaten Bandh On May 21
Hyderabad, May 12 (Maxim News): Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee threatened bandh on May 21 if the State government failed to pay Rs 10 lakh ex gratia to the family of the murdered auto driver Harinath besides providing a new auto to the auto owner concerned within a week. The auto drivers in the twin cities would organize a day’s auto bandh on May 21.
In a press statement here today, TADJAC convener Mohd Amanullah Khan demanded that the State government own responsibility for the crimes being committed by the individuals in a drunken State. It may be mentioned here that an Auto driver was murdered by five men, including a juvenile, following a dispute over fare at midnight at Jalpally lake. The killers also burnt body of the victim with petrol.
Mohd Amanullah Khan said if total prohibition was enforced in the State, some 80% of the crimes, accidents due to drunken driving and atrocities on women will come down automatically. There will also be no need to conduct drunken driving checks and sending offenders to jails, canceling their driving licenses and imposing heavy penalties. Mohd Amanullah Khan urged Chief Minister KCR to enforce total prohibition in the State because prevention is better than cure. (Maxim News)
