Internet, June 29: A special anti-corruption court has sent eight accused in the alleged Ayodhya Ram Temple donation misuse case to 14 days of judicial custody.
According to reports, the accused will remain in custody until July 13 as the investigation continues. The court passed the order after investigators informed the court that further inquiry was still underway.
The accused in the case include Ramashankar alias Tinnu Yadav, Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lovekush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramshankar Mishra and Subhash Srivastava.
Investigators stated that the accused were associated with responsibilities linked to counting and managing donations and valuables received at the temple.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has conducted searches and reportedly seized around Rs. 79.85 lakh in cash.
Authorities are now examining financial transactions, bank accounts and property records following allegations of disproportionate assets. Investigators are also looking into whether additional individuals may have had any role in the matter.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court did not immediately take up a petition seeking a CBI investigation and directed procedural processing through the registry.
The matter has also triggered political reactions in Uttar Pradesh, with opposition parties raising questions over the issue while the state government has said action should be taken against anyone found guilty and accused rivals of politicising the matter.
