New Delhi/Hyderabad, June 29: Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said village development remains central to achieving the vision of a developed India and called on states to accelerate implementation of rural development programmes.
He made the remarks during a review meeting held in New Delhi on Monday to assess the progress of rural development schemes across states. Rural Development Ministers from 27 states participated in the meeting.
Telangana Asked to Speed Up Rural Projects
During the review, Shivraj Singh said Telangana needed to improve the pace of implementation of certain rural schemes.
He urged the state government to accelerate works under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and complete pending road projects at the earliest.
The Union Minister also directed Telangana officials to complete the PM Awas survey process quickly and asked the state to fill vacancies related to rural development administration.
He stressed that rural progress should become the foundation for building a developed India and advised states to work cooperatively beyond political differences.
Rural Development Programme From July 1
Shivraj Singh announced that the Vikasit Bharat Gramin Yojana would be rolled out from July 1 and appealed to state governments to release their share of funds on time for smooth implementation.
He also appreciated Andhra Pradesh for its progress in implementing rural development initiatives and said the state was among those that completed required notifications related to the programme.
The Union Minister announced that the national launch event for the programme would be held in Tirupati on July 2.
He further stated that Andhra Pradesh had been recognised among the better-performing states in maintaining quality standards under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
