Hyderabad: The famous Balapur Ganesh laddu will be auctioned on September 25, with the bid expected to cross last year’s record ₹35 lakh.
The 21-kg laddu auction has become a major attraction during the Ganesh festival. The tradition began in 1994, when Kolan Krishna Reddy bought the laddu for just ₹450.
In 2025, Lingala Dasrath Goud of Karmanghat won the auction with a record bid of ₹35 lakh.
Balapur Laddu Auction and Ganesh Immersion Arrangements
The auction will follow the traditional morning procession through Balapur. The procession is scheduled to begin around 5 am.
Around 20 to 30 bidders are expected to participate this year. Organisers have fixed the upset price at ₹2,100.
The Balapur laddu is considered auspicious by devotees. Traditionally, auction winners distribute portions of the laddu among family members, friends and others.
The auction proceeds are used for temple-related activities and development works in Balapur.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad has stepped up preparations for the main phase of Ganesh idol immersion on Friday.
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has deployed 234 trained swimmers at Hussainsagar and other major immersion points.
At Hussainsagar, 150 swimmers will work in three shifts, with 50 personnel deployed in each shift. Another 84 swimmers have been stationed at immersion points under CMC limits.
HYDRAA has also deployed 51 Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams to handle emergencies and assist devotees during the immersion.
Additional arrangements have been made at IDL Lake in Kukatpally, where the water body has been deepened to around 25 feet to facilitate safer immersion.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath said departments were coordinating to ensure the immersion process remains orderly and safe.
