Bandi Sanjay Slams Opposition Over 131st Amendment Bill

Hyderabad, April 18 (Maxim News) : Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar strongly criticised the Opposition for blocking the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. He alleged that Congress and the I.N.D.I.A alliance committed a historic betrayal against southern states.

In a detailed statement posted on X on Saturday, Bandi Sanjay said parties that speak about southern pride outside Parliament failed to protect southern interests inside the House.

He claimed the bill aimed to safeguard regional representation during the upcoming delimitation process.

Minister Warns on South India Representation

Bandi Sanjay said southern states may lose political importance after constituency delimitation expected after 2026.

He noted that Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala controlled population growth and invested in education and development. However, he said seat redistribution may weaken their voice in national politics.

Therefore, he argued that the NDA government introduced the 131st Amendment Bill as a protective measure for southern states.

He accused Opposition parties of blocking the bill for political gain instead of supporting regional interests.

Targets Congress and I.N.D.I.A Bloc

The Union Minister also said Home Minister Amit Shah gave a clear assurance in Parliament regarding southern representation.

According to Bandi Sanjay, Amit Shah expressed readiness to increase seats for southern states by 50 percent. Even then, he said, the Opposition remained silent.

Further, he claimed the bill would ensure justice for women and provide fair representation for future generations.

He alleged that Congress exposed its real intentions by opposing what he described as a historic reform.

Bandi Sanjay said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to protect every region of the country. In contrast, he accused Opposition parties of focusing only on power politics.

He added that people of the country would remember what he called a betrayal of southern states.

The issue has now intensified political debate over delimitation and regional balance ahead of future elections. (Maxim News)
