Weather has already affected the Asian Games cricket competition in Nisshin, with rain forcing the abandonment of earlier quarter-finals without a ball being bowled. The India-Afghanistan and Pakistan-Hong Kong quarter-finals were both abandoned, with the higher-seeded teams advancing.
That makes playing conditions an important factor for the Bangladesh-Malaysia contest. A washout could again bring the tournament’s qualification rules into focus.
The quarter-final is part of a knockout schedule that also includes Sri Lanka against Nepal. The semi-finals are scheduled for October 1, followed by the bronze-medal match and final on October 3 at Korogi Sports Park.
The Bangladesh-Malaysia winner is scheduled to progress to the semi-finals, where Pakistan has subsequently been confirmed as Bangladesh’s opponent after another rain-affected quarter-final.
