Banking operations in Tamil Nadu were crippledin view of the one-day nation-wide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) to protest against privatisation of PSBs, merger and consolidation of PSBs and writing off corporate NPAs.
In Tamil Nadu more than 7000 branches of commercial and Regional Rural banks remained closed and about 70,000 employees and officers participated in the strike.
Around 12 lakh instruments, amounting to Rs 7,300 crores remained uncleared, Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) General Secretary C P Krishnan said.
