- Trump claims US destroyed Iranian bases on Kharg Island
- Kharg Island seen as key hub for Iran crude oil exports
Hyderabad: Kharg Island destroyed became a major claim made by United States President Donald Trump, who said that military bases on the key Iranian island were completely destroyed in an attack. He shared the statement through a post on Truth Social amid rising tensions in West Asia.
According to Trump, powerful bombs targeted Iranian military facilities located on Kharg Island. He stated that the operation led to the destruction of those bases. However, he also clarified that the fuel stations located on the island were not destroyed during the attack.
The development comes as tensions continue between the United States, Israel, and Iran. The situation has also affected maritime routes and oil shipments in the region.
Trump comments on Kharg Island attack and Strait of Hormuz
Trump said that the United States Navy will soon escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. This move, he said, aims to ensure the safe movement of ships through the critical waterway.
He also warned that if ships are not allowed to pass freely through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States would immediately attack those centres responsible for blocking the passage. According to him, Iran does not have the power to defend areas targeted by such operations.
Trump also stated that Iran has never obtained a nuclear weapon and has not threatened the United States or the West. Meanwhile, he responded to questions about rising oil prices across the world. He said the United States would soon provide escort for oil tankers moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
Thousands of oil tankers are reportedly stranded in the waterway due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The situation has increased concerns about global energy supply and shipping routes.
Kharg Island central to Iran oil exports
Kharg Island plays a major role in Iran’s fuel supply chain. The island lies about 15 nautical miles off the coast of Iran and measures around five miles in width. Despite its small size, it is widely considered the lifeline of Iran’s oil exports.
Nearly 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports reportedly pass through Kharg Island. Large storage tanks on the island hold the crude oil before it is loaded onto fuel ships.
From there, the shipments move toward international markets through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. China is reported to be the largest consumer of Iranian oil transported from this route.
The United States believes that restricting access to Kharg Island could weaken Iran’s economy. The island also functions as a key terminal where petroleum products are stored and supplied after crude oil processing. Therefore, developments around Kharg Island remain closely watched in the ongoing regional conflict.
