Hyderabad, Oct. 9: Bathukamma celebrations, a major symbol of Telangana’s cultural identity, will begin across the state on October 10. Temples and public spaces are being decorated, while local organisers are preparing for traditional festivities.
In Bowenpally, arrangements are underway for celebrations at the Cantonment Playground under the guidance of former Cantonment Board vice chairman Jampana Pratap. He said the festival showcases Telangana’s traditions and its close connection with nature.

Former Cantonment Board vice president Jakkula Maheshwar Reddy is organising Bathukamma celebrations and Dandiya at Jayanagar Colony Square in Bowenpally.

Preparations are also underway at Edugudula Temple, Tadbund Temple and Sitarampuram Shiva Temple. Maheshwar Reddy urged people to celebrate the festival traditionally and spread happiness.
Bathukamma is celebrated over nine days using colourful flowers found in nature. The festival honours womanhood and reflects Telangana’s cultural heritage.
The name Bathukamma means “Mother Goddess, come alive” and is associated with prayers for life, prosperity and well-being. Women traditionally arrange seasonal flowers in layered floral stacks and gather to sing and celebrate together.
