Anantapur / Hyderabad, Oct. 5 (Maxim News): Bird flu has been confirmed in Siddarampuram village of Bukkarayasamudram mandal in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district after around 2,500 native chickens died over the past month.
Laboratory tests confirmed avian influenza in samples collected from the dead birds, triggering an alert among animal husbandry officials. Poultry farmers have reportedly suffered losses of around ₹10 lakh due to the deaths.
The deaths raised concerns among villagers and poultry farmers after large numbers of birds died in succession. Veterinary officials collected blood and other samples from the dead chickens and sent them to the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal for testing.
The positive test results prompted the district administration and animal husbandry department to intensify surveillance in Siddarampuram and nearby areas.
Officials Intensify Measures to Contain Bird Flu
Officials have stepped up precautionary measures to prevent the disease from spreading to other poultry populations. These include spraying sodium hypochlorite solution, monitoring nearby areas and strengthening isolation and surveillance measures.

Veterinary teams are monitoring the situation and advising poultry owners to report unusual or sudden deaths among birds immediately. Officials are also working to raise awareness about preventive measures among villagers and poultry farmers.
Health authorities have advised residents to report symptoms such as fever or respiratory problems promptly so that they can receive medical assessment.
The outbreak has raised concerns about the impact on local poultry farming and the livelihoods of people who rear native chickens. The authorities are continuing field-level monitoring and preventive action to limit further spread.
Residents and poultry farmers have been urged to cooperate with veterinary officials and follow their instructions while the situation remains under surveillance. (Maxim News)
