BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy Blames BRS Over Chevella Bus Accident
Hyderabad, Nov. 4 (Maxim News) : BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy blamed the previous BRS government for the Chevella bus accident that claimed 19 lives, alleging that administrative negligence directly caused the tragedy.
He said the Bijapur National Highway was approved in 2016 but the then government failed to acquire land for widening, leaving an unsafe, narrow stretch.
He added, “The BRS government is one hundred percent responsible for the Chevella bus accident,” citing a tilt toward real estate interests over public safety.
He argued that inaction on road expansion turned the Chevella–Mirzaguda section hazardous. He said the focus on commercial priorities undermined essential upgrades and risk reduction. He maintained that the loss of life was preventable with timely land acquisition and road works.
Meanwhile, the Telangana State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the crash and ordered a comprehensive probe.
It directed the Transport, Home, and Mines & Geology departments, along with the Ranga Reddy District Collector, the NHAI regional officer, and TSRTC officials, to submit detailed reports by December 15. The move aims to secure accountability and map systemic fixes.
Public concern has grown over recurring accidents on the Chevella–Mirzaguda stretch, which has long awaited widening and safety upgrades. Therefore, the Commission’s intervention aligns with calls for immediate engineering remedies and enforcement measures. The focus now is on whether corrective action will be fast-tracked to prevent further tragedies. (Maxim News)
