Hyderabad: With the July 24 deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls fast approaching, many Booth Level Officers (BLOs) deployed for the exercise in Hyderabad have sought a one-month extension, citing difficulties in completing door-to-door verification and distribution of enumeration forms.
According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), 81.09 per cent of the enumeration form distribution across all 15 Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad district had been completed as of July 7.
BLOs Cite Practical Challenges
Despite the progress, BLOs said several practical issues have slowed the exercise. Many voters have shifted to different localities, while in several cases neighbours requested enumeration forms on behalf of absent residents, making verification difficult.
Officials also pointed to poor mobile network connectivity as a major hurdle. They said updating voter details and uploading completed forms often takes around 10 minutes per household, forcing them to revisit homes multiple times to complete the verification process.
Some BLOs, who have been deputed from various government departments, expressed concern that they would have to return to their regular duties immediately after the SIR exercise, leaving them with accumulated office work.
One BLO said he has been taking the help of his spouse to distribute enumeration forms due to severe knee pain.
GHMC Reviews Progress
The GHMC has maintained that the SIR exercise is progressing steadily and officials are working to complete the remaining distribution within the prescribed timeline. Election authorities have directed field staff to ensure that every eligible voter is covered and that the revision process is completed in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines.
