Bombay, Sept. 8: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has suffered a setback in a defamation case linked to his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Bombay High Court dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s petition seeking to quash the criminal defamation proceedings against him. The trial in the case will now continue.
The case relates to remarks Rahul Gandhi allegedly made during the controversy over the Rafale fighter jet deal. He had reportedly referred to Prime Minister Modi as a “commander in thief” during public statements and on social media.
BJP activist Mahesh Shrimal filed a defamation complaint over the remarks. Following the complaint, the court issued summons to Rahul Gandhi.
Court Rejects Rahul Gandhi’s Plea to Quash Case
Rahul Gandhi later approached the Bombay High Court challenging the criminal proceedings. He sought to have the defamation case against him quashed.
However, the court dismissed his petition. The defamation proceedings will therefore continue before the appropriate court.
