Bring Sub-Plan For Minorities In Telangana, demands Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan
Hyderabad, March 15: Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan urged the Telangana government to introduce a Sub-Plan for minorities, ensuring structured financial allocations and targeted welfare measures.
Speaking on the Motion of Thanks on the Governor’s Address in the Telangana Legislative Council on Saturday, he highlighted the Congress Government’s commitment to inclusive growth, social justice, and data-driven policymaking.
Amer Ali Khan emphasized that the Congress Government was dedicated to ensuring that Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and minorities received their rightful share in development. “Governance is not just about administration—it is about serving people, transforming lives, and building a future of dignity, prosperity, and justice for all,” he said, echoing the sentiments expressed in the Governor’s address.
He termed the comprehensive caste survey initiated by the Congress Government a “historic move”, stating that it would ensure policy decisions on reservations, financial aid, and development programs were based on scientific data rather than assumptions. “Justice cannot be delivered without accurate data,” he remarked, criticizing the previous BRS regime for ignoring such an exercise and depriving marginalized communities of fair representation in welfare programs.
Highlighting the welfare initiatives undertaken by the Congress Government, he noted that the administration was prioritizing direct financial assistance to marginalized groups. “A society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable. The Congress Government has proven that welfare is not a burden but a responsibility,” he asserted.
Referring to the statistics on various welfare schemes mentioned in the Governor’s Address, Amer Ali Khan said the Mahalakshmi Scheme had facilitated 149.63 crore free bus rides for women, saving them Rs 5,005.95 crore in travel expenses, significantly enhancing their economic independence. Similarly, he praised other schemes, including the Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhaya Hastham Scheme, Amma Adarsha Pathashala initiative, Aarogyasri Health Insurance Scheme, and Indira Mahila Shakti Mission.
He also highlighted that several companies were eager to invest in Telangana, but the Centre was reportedly creating hurdles in their entry. “Despite these obstacles, the Congress Government remains focused on creating job opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship among SC, ST, OBC, and minority youth,” he added.
Slamming the previous BRS government for its selective welfare approach, he stated that the Dalit Bandhu Scheme had benefited only a fraction of the intended families, whereas the Congress Government had ensured broader financial coverage for marginalized communities.
Amer Ali Khan further reiterated the Congress Government’s long-term vision for ensuring social justice. It included legislative backing for 42% BC reservations to ensure proportional representation in education and employment and a Bill on SC categorization, based on the Justice Shameem Akther Commission’s recommendations, for the fair distribution of reservation benefits.
Speaking on financial accountability, he said the government was now working with real data. “Earlier, we assumed Telangana’s debt was Rs 3 lakh crore, but after coming to power, we discovered it is Rs 6.9 lakh crore. Policies should be based on facts, not assumptions,” he pointed out.
Amer Ali Khan also raised critical concerns during Special Mentions and Question Hour in the Council. He demanded immediate disbursement of Overseas Scholarship funds from the PD Account, which had been delayed, and highlighted the plight of a Head Constable awaiting GPF funds to arrange his daughter’s marriage.
He asserted that the Congress Government was working to remove divisive politics and foster unity. “The introduction of Integrated Residential Schools is a step towards removing hate and instilling love among Indians. Our motto is simple—the last person in the line should benefit from governance,” he said.
He reaffirmed that the Congress Government’s approach was not about slogans but real action. “Minority empowerment means education, employment, healthcare, and financial security – not just promises. The difference between us and the previous government is clear – justice is now backed by action,” he said. (Maxim News)
