Hyderabad, May 31: Protests erupted across Mancherial district on Sunday after the arrest of BRS leader and former MLA Balka Suman in connection with his recent remarks allegedly targeting the state government. BRS cadres strongly condemned the arrest, accusing the Congress government of political vendetta and misuse of police machinery.
Supporters of Balka Suman staged demonstrations in several parts of the district, particularly across the Chennur Assembly constituency. Protesters burned effigies of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, organized sit-ins, and raised slogans against the state government.
Protests Disrupt Traffic
BRS activists held protests at Bheemaram mandal headquarters and blocked traffic on key roads and national highways in Chennur, Kyathanpalli, and Mandamarri towns. The demonstrations caused temporary traffic disruptions as party workers demanded the immediate release of Balka Suman.
Party leaders alleged that the arrest was politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices critical of the government.
Allegations Against Government
BRS cadres claimed that Suman’s comments on alleged authoritarian governance and political interference were deliberately misrepresented. They argued that the Congress government was attempting to suppress dissent and target opposition leaders through legal action.
The protesters further alleged that political interference in the administration of Singareni Collieries Company Limited had increased under the current government. According to BRS leaders, the coal mining company was facing administrative and financial challenges due to alleged irregularities and corruption.
Demand for Immediate Release
BRS leaders and activists demanded that the government withdraw the case against Balka Suman and release him without delay. They accused the Congress leadership of launching a campaign to tarnish Suman’s image following the party’s success in the Kyathanpalli municipality.
The party also alleged that the police were being used to harass opposition leaders over minor issues and claimed that the case was part of a broader attempt to weaken the BRS in the region.
The Telangana government has not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations made by BRS leaders regarding the arrest.
