Hyderabad, Oct. 30: BRS MLA Dr K. Sanjay challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to organise a “Water Summit” instead of the Telangana Rising Global Summit, alleging that the state government had failed to address drinking water shortages, power supply issues and farmers’ irrigation needs.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, Sanjay said the government was promoting Telangana as an investment destination while people were struggling to access drinking water and farmers were facing severe irrigation shortages.
“If the government cannot provide drinking water to its people, how will it supply water to those attending the Global Summit and investors who set up industries?” he asked.
BRS Demands Focus on Water and Irrigation Issues
Sanjay offered to help the government understand how available water resources could be lifted and utilised. He also questioned the Congress government’s alleged inaction over the cyberattack on the TS-iPASS portal and the resulting delay in industrial approvals.
The BRS MLA further accused the government of failing to provide adequate power to industries. He said the previous BRS regime had increased Telangana’s power generation capacity from around 7,000 MW before the state’s formation to nearly 20,000 MW.
Citing the Kitex Group’s move, Sanjay claimed that industries were facing power shortages and shifting their operations to Andhra Pradesh.

Questioning the government’s ambition to build a $3-trillion economy, he said the target would remain difficult to achieve if agriculture, industries and businesses continued to face problems.
He also claimed that the Congress government had failed to construct even one flyover in Hyderabad, contrasting it with the 30 flyovers built during the BRS regime.
Kaushik Reddy Raises Medigadda Water Issue
BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy accused the Congress government of allowing nearly 1,000 TMC feet of Godavari water to flow downstream without lifting it for irrigation.
He claimed that around 25,000 cusecs of water was still flowing past Medigadda and alleged that the government had failed to utilise it for farmers.
Recalling the BRS MLAs’ visit to Medigadda on June 9, led by party working president K.T. Rama Rao, Kaushik Reddy accused Revanth Reddy of neglecting farmers.
Dismissing the government’s explanation that El Niño had affected agricultural conditions, he described the situation as a “Congress-induced drought”. He said farmers were being forced to spend thousands of rupees on water tankers because of the government’s alleged inefficiency.
Kaushik Reddy demanded compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for farmers whose crops had dried up. He also urged the government to lift water from the Medigadda barrage for irrigation.
Questioning the Chief Minister’s authority to declare a crop holiday, he said the government should focus on supplying irrigation water instead of asking farmers to avoid cultivation.
