Bypoll Results 2026 | Hyderabad, Oct 9: Counting of votes began at 8 am on October 9 for six bypolls across four states and Union Territories.
The contests cover five Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat. They include Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal, Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, and Thattanchavady in Puducherry. Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency is also being counted.
The results are being closely watched for their political significance. They could offer an early indication of voter sentiment following recent political changes.
Bypoll Results 2026: Key Constituencies in Focus
In West Bengal, Nandigram and Rejinagar are drawing attention after the BJP replaced the Trinamool Congress in government. The results could indicate how voters are responding to the political shift.
Nandigram holds particular significance because BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee there in 2021.
Adhikari retained Bhabanipur after winning both constituencies in the 2026 Assembly elections. His decision created the vacancy in Nandigram.
The Rejinagar contest features candidates from the BJP, Trinamool Congress factions, Congress, CPI(M) and Aam Janata Unnayan Party. The party’s candidate is Golam Nabi Azad, son of Humayun Kabir.
In Tamil Nadu, the Madurantakam and Dharapuram bypolls are being watched as an electoral test for actor turned politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Both seats became vacant after former AIADMK legislators joined TVK.
Madurantakam recorded 86.26% voter turnout, while Dharapuram recorded 80.30%. The results will show how the parties performed in these constituencies.
In Puducherry, Thattanchavady is another key constituency. The bypoll followed Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s decision to retain Mangalam instead.
In Assam, the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll features a contest involving the BJP, Congress and AIUDF. The candidates include BJP nominee Devasish Sharma, Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal.
The Election Commission of India is publishing counting updates through its official results portal. Initial leads may change as counting progresses, while final results will confirm the winners.
