New York/Internet/Hyderabad, Oct 9 (Maxim News): California has become the third state in the US to declare Diwali an official state holiday. California Governor Gavin Newom on Tuesday signed a bill introduced by Assemblyman Ash Kalra, declaring Diwali a state holiday.
Pennsylvania became the first state to declare Diwali an official state holiday in october 2024, followed by Connecticut this year.
New York city has declared Diwali a holiday for public schools, “Indian Americans have reached an important milestone in their journey toward greater cultural integration and identity.
This recognition not only reflects the art of Diwali, but also the lasting impact of Indian Americans in the United States,” Indiaspora founder and chairman MR Rangaswamy said in a statement. He congratulated Assemblywoman Dr. Darshana Patel, who co-sponsored the bill. (Maxim News)
