Delhi/Hyderabad, Sept 4 (Maxim News): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has cracked down on the ‘digital arrest’ cyber crimes that are creating a sensation across the country. As part of ‘Operation Chakra-VI’, the CBI conducted simultaneous extensive searches in 89 places in 20 states. The CBI police have arrested three accused who played a key role in receiving, diverting and distributing the money looted from cyber victims.
These cyber gangs are committing many crimes by digitally arresting people by pretending to be police and government officials and showing fake identity cards. They are terrorizing the victims and extorting crores of rupees from them. The CBI has carried out these latest checks on these gangs as per the orders of the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, in three key digital arrest cases received by the CBI from different states, the victims were digitally arrested for months and a total of Rs. 42.36 crores were recovered.
1. BITS Pilani case: The victim was digitally arrested for three months and Rs. 7.67 crore was recovered.
2. Gujarat case: A person was digitally imprisoned for three months in the name of the police and a sum of Rs. 19.24 crore was collected.
3. Karnataka case: The victim was terrorized for a month and robbed of Rs. 15.45 crores.
Extensive inspections in 20 states
After analyzing financial and technical information and bank account data, the CBI conducted raids at 89 locations. Bank records, digital devices and key evidence were seized during these searches. Forensic checks are being conducted to find out where the cash went. The CBI has arrested three people involved in handling and laundering money in connection with these digital arrests.
Three masterminds caught
Akash (Haryana): Rs. 1.95 crores came into his account, but he diverted the money to other accounts on the same day.
Raja Karmakar (Kolkata): Rs. 1.5 crore was fraudulently deposited into his company’s account.
Jyoti Rani: She withdrew some of the money that came into her account in cash and distributed the rest to other accounts. (Maxim News)
