Hyderabad, July 22: The Centre has approved the procurement of an additional 8 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of rice from Telangana for the Rabi marketing season, increasing the state’s overall procurement target.
With the latest approval, the revised procurement estimate has been raised to 43 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of rice, providing additional market support for paddy cultivated by farmers in the state.
Telangana Rice Procurement Target Increased
The enhanced procurement target is expected to improve market access for farmers and strengthen the procurement process during the Rabi season.
The Telangana government welcomed the Centre’s decision, stating that the additional procurement would help ensure better support for farmers.
Separately, the Centre directed the state to fully implement the Vehicle Location Tracking System (VLTS) in all eligible vehicles by September 30, 2026. The system is intended to enable real time vehicle tracking and improve road safety and monitoring.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar met Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal in Parliament and thanked the Centre for approving the revised procurement target.
According to the government, the increased procurement is expected to strengthen farmers’ financial security and facilitate smoother paddy procurement operations across Telangana.
