Centre Revises Fuel Export Tax Imposed SAED On Petrol

Hyderabad, May 16: Centre revises fuel export tax imposes SAED on petrol exports while reducing duties on diesel and aviation turbine fuel.

The Union government imposed a Special Additional Excise Duty of Rs 3 per litre on petrol exports. The revised rates will come into effect from Saturday.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, export duty on diesel has been reduced to Rs 16.5 per litre.

The government also reduced road and infrastructure cess on petrol and diesel exports to zero. However, domestic fuel tax rates remain unchanged.

Officials said this is the first SAED imposed on petrol exports since the West Asia conflict intensified. The decision comes amid volatility in global crude oil markets.

The export duty on diesel has seen several revisions in recent months. It was fixed at Rs 21.5 per litre on March 26 before being raised to Rs 55.5 per litre on April 11.

Later, the duty was reduced to Rs 23 per litre on April 30. It has now been revised further to Rs 16.5 per litre.

Aviation turbine fuel also witnessed multiple revisions. The duty was initially Rs 29.5 per litre before rising to Rs 42 per litre.

Subsequently, it was reduced to Rs 33 per litre and now stands at Rs 16 per litre.

The Centre introduced the windfall tax mechanism to ensure adequate domestic fuel supply and regulate exports during global oil disruptions.

Global tensions remain high after talks between the United States and Iran failed to produce an agreement. US President Donald Trump reportedly rejected Iran’s proposal during recent discussions.
