Child Marriage Will Not Take Place In Assam As Long As I Am Alive: Himanta Biswa

Guwahati/Hyderabad, Feb 26 (Maxim News): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma once again attacked the Congress party. He strongly objected to child marriages. He made it clear that child marriages will not take place in the state as long as he is alive.

Criticising the Muslim Marriages and Muslim divorce Registration Act – 1935 which was repealed recently by the Assem Cabinet, Himanta Biswa Sharma has vowed to eradicate child marriage in the state by 2026. Listen carefully to what I have to say, As long as I live there will be no child marriage in Assam. Himanta Biswa Sharma challenged the rival parties on the same issue.

It may be recalled that the Assam Cabinet on Friday approved the repeal of the Muslim Marriage and divorce Registration Act -1935. The opposition has criticized the Assam government’s decision.  It is alleged that it is discriminatory against Muslims.  (Maxim News)
