Chilkur Priest Urges Protection Of Bhadrachalam Temple Lands Amid Encroachment Row

Hyderabad, July 11: Chilkur Balaji temple priest and Temples Protection Movement (TPM) convenor CS Rangarajan has strongly condemned the recent attack on the Executive Officer of Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple, Bhadrachalam. The officer was allegedly assaulted after raising objections to illegal constructions on temple-owned lands in Purushothapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

In an official statement, Rangarajan expressed concern over the lack of enforcement despite High Court orders safeguarding the temple’s ownership of these lands.

“The lands of Sri Bhadrachala Ramulavaru are not just property, they carry deep spiritual and historical value for crores of devotees across the Telugu-speaking states. It is distressing to see temple officials being threatened and attacked for simply doing their duty,” he said.

Encroachment Sparks Religious and Legal Alarm

The Bhadrachalam temple, one of the most revered temples in South India, owns several acres of land in Purushothapatnam, located across the border in Andhra Pradesh. Despite judicial directives, encroachments have continued, leading to tensions on the ground.

The TPM alleges that land mafia and unauthorized developers are exploiting the administrative divide between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to encroach on temple properties.

Joint Action Urged by Governments

Calling the situation “sensitive and urgent,” Rangarajan appealed to both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to come together and resolve the dispute permanently.

“A joint resolution between both States is the need of the hour to preserve these sacred lands and uphold the dignity of temple institutions,” he stated.

Devotees Rally for Preservation

The controversy has sparked outrage among devotees and temple protection activists. Social media platforms have seen hashtags like #SaveBhadrachalamLands and #ProtectTempleProperties trending, with many calling for stricter laws against temple land encroachments.
