Civil Supplies Department Reviews Kharif Procurement, Plans Rabi Roadmap

The meeting focused on procurement performance, farmer payments, crop advisory, and infrastructure readiness, with officials stressing timely planning to support farmers and ensure smooth operations across Telangana.

Focus on paddy procurement and Rabi preparedness

Officials said the department has procured 71.90 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during Kharif 2025 to 26. So far, 97.08 percent of farmer dues have been cleared, amounting to Rs 18,568 crore. This includes Rs 1,425 crore released towards the bonus component.

The Civil Supplies Department reiterated its push for fine paddy varieties with higher market demand. Farmers were advised to cultivate Telangana Sona RNR 15048, HMT, and Jaisreeram, as these varieties offer better milling and pricing outcomes. In contrast, officials cautioned farmers against varieties such as MTU 1153 and KNM 733 due to recurring milling issues.

For the Rabi season, farmers were advised to complete sowing at the earliest. Early sowing helps ensure harvesting before peak summer temperatures, reducing grain damage and improving yield quality.

The department also reviewed infrastructure preparedness. Officials said advance planning is underway to upgrade manual paddy cleaners to automatic systems at procurement centres. Stocks of essential equipment, including tarpaulins and moisture meters, are being built up to avoid shortages during peak arrivals.

Special attention was given to Husnabad, where godowns were damaged during the Montha cyclone. The department said repair and restoration works at these storage facilities have been taken up on priority to prevent disruptions in procurement and storage.
