CJP Jantar Mantar Protest | New Delhi / Hyderabad, Oct 12 (Maxim News) : The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has challenged the Delhi Police over its refusal to grant permission for a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
CJP chief spokesperson Sourav Das responded on Monday to remarks by Delhi Police Joint Commissioner Nupur Prasad, who said applicants must seek permission at least 10 days before holding protests or other events at the designated venue.
Sourav Das said the police should decide the date and time for the proposed demonstration if advance notice is mandatory.
He said the party was giving the police 24 hours to communicate when the protest could be held.
“The police are saying that anyone who wants to protest must approach them 10 days in advance. We are now giving them the opportunity to decide the date and time for our protest and inform us. We are giving them 24 hours for this,” Das said.

The statement comes after the Delhi Police denied the party permission to stage its demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
The dispute centres on the advance application requirement and the police’s stated concerns about compliance with protest guidelines, public safety and law and order.

Joint Commissioner Nupur Prasad said the CJP had previously received permission to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar but had failed to comply with police guidelines and assurances given by the party.
She said the decision to deny the latest request took into account the earlier alleged violations, the prevailing law and order situation, public safety and traffic regulations in the New Delhi area.
Delhi Police also said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in force in the vicinity of Jantar Mantar.
According to the police, the restrictions were imposed to maintain public safety and preserve law and order.
The police warned that appropriate legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the applicable restrictions.
The current dispute has brought attention to the procedures for organising demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, a designated protest venue in the national capital.
The CJP has called on the police to communicate a date and time for its proposed demonstration within the stated 24-hour deadline.
The information provided does not indicate whether the police have responded to that demand or whether permission for the protest has subsequently been granted. (Maxim News)
