New Delhi, July 27: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday said it is awaiting a written assurance from the Union Government on the withdrawal of criminal cases against protesters and organisers, warning that it will resume its agitation if the commitment is not received by Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the issue was discussed during the third round of talks with the Centre before the 36 day protest at Jantar Mantar was called off.
Ranka said both sides had agreed that all FIRs registered against protesters and organisers across the country would be withdrawn. He added that no fresh cases would be filed against those associated with the agitation.
According to Ranka, the CJP submitted a draft agreement to Union Ministers J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh. He said the government had agreed to provide a written document after completing legal consultations.
He expressed hope that the government would honour the understanding by withdrawing the FIRs, ensuring the release of those arrested during the protests and preventing any future legal action against organisers or participants.
Ranka warned that if the written assurance is not received by Tuesday and detained protesters are not released, the organisation will be compelled to launch fresh protests.

CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the organisation ended its agitation in good faith after the government accepted key demands and assured action on the remaining issues within a specified timeline.
Ranka also said the organisation consulted senior advocate Kapil Sibal before and after ending the protest to safeguard the movement from what he described as politically motivated legal action.
Sibal said the organisation wanted to ensure that students who participated in the protests were not targeted individually after the agitation concluded. He added that the movement was driven by students and stressed that peaceful dissent should be protected.
The CJP ended its 36 day protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday after the government accepted several demands, including the resignation of the then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while assuring action on other issues within an agreed timeframe.
