Hyderabad, July 27: Hyderabad Lok Sabha Congress in charge and former Hyderabad District Congress Committee president Mohammed Waliullah Sameer on Monday praised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for leading protests over the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak, describing him as the only Chief Minister to personally join demonstrations in support of affected students.
Sameer said Revanth Reddy had shown that protecting students’ future is a constitutional and moral responsibility. He said the Chief Minister stood with students, led protest programmes and consistently demanded accountability from the Union Government over the alleged examination irregularities.
According to Sameer, Revanth Reddy immediately condemned the cancellation of the NEET examination following allegations of a paper leak. He said the Chief Minister called for a transparent investigation, strict action against those responsible and reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Sameer also said Revanth Reddy criticised the reported police action against student protesters in New Delhi and maintained that peaceful protests are a democratic right that should not be curtailed through arrests or the use of force.
Highlighting the Telangana Government’s record, Sameer said more than 70,000 vacancies had been filled across various departments since the Congress assumed office. He added that the government had also introduced measures to expand employment opportunities and improve transparency in recruitment.
The Congress leader welcomed Revanth Reddy’s proposal to reduce the minimum age for contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from 25 years to 21 years. He said the government’s decision to convene a special Assembly session in the first week of August to pass a resolution on the issue reflected its commitment to empowering young people.
Quoting the Chief Minister, Sameer said if a 21 year old can qualify as an IAS officer or contest local body elections, there is no reason to deny them the opportunity to contest Assembly or Parliamentary elections.
Sameer further said the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resulted from sustained pressure by students and opposition parties. He also called for comprehensive reforms to strengthen the examination system, strict action against those involved in paper leaks, withdrawal of cases against peaceful student protesters and measures to restore public confidence in national examinations.
