Officials say that the plant under construction will be available in another six months. 8,000 tons of garbage is generated daily in Greater Hyderabad. It contains 4500-5000 tons of wet waste. As part of scientific management, organic fertilizers, CNG gas, and dry waste should be used to generate electricity. At present 300-350 tonnes of wet waste is being made into organic fertilizers in the Jawaharnagar dumping yard. About 40 megawatts of electricity is being generated from waste in plants in Jawaharnagar and Dundigal. About 2,250 thousand metric tons of dry waste is used for this purpose.

Currently, biogas is being produced from methane gas coming out of the capped waste in the dumping yard. GHMC, which is constructing another power plant in Jawaharnagar for 100 percent recycling of waste, intends to set up bio CNG plants in Paranagar and Dundigal, which are under consideration for setting up a dumping yard.

The sources of GHMC stated that apart from ensuring that waste does not accumulate, the people of the surrounding areas will not have problems like bad smells and environmental pollution.

Mayor Gadwazl Vijayalakshmi and a group of corporators who went on a visit to Indore visited the bio-CNG plant there and examined the management methods.  (Maxim News)
