Hyderabad, sept.25 (Maxim News): Roche Diagnostics India today announced the launch of its first cobas 8800 instrument for South India at Telangana’s first Molecular Lab and Centre of Excellence located in the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad. The lab was inaugurated by Eatala Rajender, Minister of Health and Medical, in the presence of DrKandakatla Manohar, Director – NIMS.
Roche’s cobas 8800 instruments run the globally used RT-PCR test for SARS CoV-2ie. cobas
SARS-CoV-2 Test. This high throughputinstrument offers improved operating efficiency, flexibility and fastest time-to-results with the highest throughput providing first 96 results in about 3.5 hours and thereafter 96 samples every 30 min totaling upto 960 results in 8 hours.
Operating on the real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) platform,
SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic tests on the instrument detects the genetic signature (RNA) of the virus in a simple test performed by a healthcare provider using nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab samples. The test can be run simultaneously with other diagnostic assays provided by Roche Diagnostics, including HIV and Hepatitis.
Eatala Rajender said “With the launch of cobas 8800 instrument at this Molecular Lab and Centre of Excellence our COVID -19 testing capacity will go up to around 3000 samples per day. Additionally this lab will support in testing for other infections such as HIV and Hepatitis giving us sustainable healthcare infrastructure for the future.”
Dr. Shravan Subramanyam, Managing Director India and Neighbouring markets, Roche Diagnostics Indiasaid, “High-volume and high-quality diagnostic tests are important to provide appropriate clinical support in time and implement social measures that can further avoid the spreading of the virus. This is also the time to enhance our infrastructure to support management of other infectious diseases. The cobas 8800 addresses almost all of the challenges faced by the labs in pandemic times and beyond, namely reduced turnaround time, maintaining testing efficiency and improved productivity of lab personnel on account of automation.Roche Diagnostics India is committed to providing technologies to help healthcare providers and patients in India during and after COVID-19 times.” (Maxim News)
