Cold Wave Intensifies Across Telangana; Rains Likely From Tonight
Telangana’s ongoing cold spell tightened its grip on Thursday and Friday, marking one of the chilliest late-November phases the state has experienced in recent years. Hyderabad recorded unusually low daytime temperatures of 25–27°C, even under clear sunshine, while early morning temperatures dipped to 11–14°C in several parts of the city.
According to weather officials, this sharp fall in temperatures is the result of thick high clouds drifting over Telangana due to Cyclone Ditwah, currently active along the Andhra–Tamil Nadu coastline. The extensive cloud cover has curtailed daytime heating, triggering a noticeable decline in maximum temperatures statewide.
Rains Expected From Tonight
The weather pattern is set for another shift as rain bands linked to Cyclone Ditwah inch closer to Telangana. Beginning the night of November 30, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast:
- Moderate showers in Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda and Bhadradri Kothagudem
- Light rainfall in adjoining districts, depending on the cyclone’s exact trajectory
Officials note that as the cyclone progresses along the coastal belt, its outer rain bands may brush several eastern Telangana districts, leading to intermittent rain spells over the next 48 hours.
Chilly, Wet Start to December Expected
With both a cold wave and rainfall occurring simultaneously, Telangana may witness a wet and unusually chilly start to December. Residents can expect:
- Colder mornings
- Reduced daytime temperatures
- Overcast skies
- Occasional light to moderate rain
Authorities have advised the public to keep track of local weather updates and take precautions, especially during early morning travel when temperatures are at their lowest.
