- ECI introduces colour photographs to aid voter clarity
- New features launched for Jubilee Hills bypoll on November 11
Hyderabad, Nov 5 (Maxim News): Voters in the Jubilee Hills bypoll will, for the first time, see colour photographs of candidates displayed on the EVM ballot papers during polling on November 11. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced this feature to make the electoral process more transparent and reduce confusion among voters.
The Jubilee Hills constituency in Telangana is the first in the state to adopt this new directive. Officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have completed preparations in accordance with the ECI’s guidelines. The Commission has also confirmed that the same feature will be used in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections and bypolls in eight other states.
According to polling officials, the inclusion of colour photos will help voters, particularly in cases where candidates share similar or identical names. “The inclusion of colour photos is expected to reduce confusion among voters, especially in cases where candidates have similar names,” a polling duty official said. He added that the move would allow voters to easily identify their chosen candidates and minimize mistakes during voting.
A total of 58 candidates are contesting the Jubilee Hills bypoll. Their colour photographs will appear on EVM ballot papers, each occupying three-fourths of the allotted image space for maximum visibility. Alongside this, the ECI has set up a mobile deposit facility at all 407 polling booths for voter convenience.
Another feature being rolled out for the bypoll is an upgraded voter information slip. It will now display the part number and serial number of each voter more prominently, making it easier for polling agents and electors to verify details.
As per official data, Jubilee Hills has a total of 4,01,365 registered voters, including 2,08,561 men, 1,92,779 women, and 123 NRIs. The constituency also includes 1,908 PwD voters, 6,859 first-time voters aged 18–19, and 6,053 citizens aged above 80. The new ECI initiatives aim to improve accessibility, ensure accuracy, and make the polling experience more voter-friendly.
