Bengaluru, July 12: Karnataka Transport Minister Bairati Suresh, travelling incognito, stepped off a BMTC bus after the conductor said he had no change for the minister’s fare.
The minister boarded a bus from Hebbal to Nagashettyhalli during a night inspection. He travelled between 7:10 pm and 9:10 pm across several routes including Jayamahal and RT Nagar. He presented a Rs 100 note for two tickets. The conductor said he had no change and asked the passenger to alight.
When the minister explained he lacked change, the conductor showed his own bag and repeated the demand. Consequently, the minister left the bus without contesting the conductor. The episode was recorded and later circulated widely on social media.
Officials said the minister conducted the inspection in disguise to observe passenger service. Netizens praised the minister’s hands on approach after the clip went viral. The transport department did not immediately comment on any follow up action.
