Internet, July 12: The United States warned Iran to publicly confirm within 24 hours that the Strait of Hormuz is open to international shipping and that attacks on commercial vessels will stop.
US officials told intermediaries they expect Iran to publicly admit its actions and pledge to halt attacks within a day. Washington warned of serious military and economic measures if Iran does not comply.
The demand followed recent incidents in the Strait involving damaged commercial vessels.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will join mediation talks in Oman, officials said. US sources expressed hope Iran may issue a statement after those talks. Analysts warned that the situation could escalate if Tehran gives no clear assurances.
