Congress alleges police excesses against Muslim protestors

Hyderabad, August 25: Congress senior leader & former Chairman of Hyderabad Congress Minorities Dept Chairman Sameer Waliullah has strongly condemned the Telangana Police for its crackdown against those who participated in the protest demanding the arrest of BJP MLA Raja Singh.

“TRS Govt has beaten BJP Govts in displaying brutality against the Muslims youth in the Old City of Hyderabad. The videos recorded by the local media and individuals clearly show that innocent Muslim youth were brutally beaten and subjected to third-degree torture. Police personnel trespassed into the houses of Muslims in Shalibanda and other areas late at night and arrested every youth present in the house. They used abusive language against the entire community in full public view. We had witnessed such instances of police brutality in many BJP Govts. But the TRS Govt has broken all those records,” he said in a media statement on Thursday.

Sameer Waliullah said that thousands of Muslim youth held peaceful protests demanding the arrest of BJP MLA Raja Singh who made derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). All those protests could have been avoided if the State Government would’ve accepted the demand made by former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir of arresting Raja Singh under the PD Act. “Congress leader Shabbir Ali was the first to demand Raja Singh’s arrest under PD Act. He had rightly pointed out that Raja Singh was a habitual offender with over 30 cases of hate speeches pending against him. Today, while invoking the PD Act against Raja Singh, Hyderabad Police have vindicated Shabbir Ali’s stand and admitted that the BJP MLA was involved in 101 cases including 18 cases of communal right,” he said.

The Congress leader said that the TRS Govt tried to protect Raja Singh by booking a weak case against him. However, it was due to the protest held by the youth and the demand made by Shabbir Ali, that the TRS Govt invoked PD Act against Raja Singh. However, he said that the TRS Govt exploited the situation to trap hundreds of innocent Muslim youth by implicating them in false cases. He said the videos of police brutality were recorded deliberately to spread fear among the Muslim youth.

Sameer Waliullah said that the Hyderabad Police was reportedly preparing a list of all youth who participated in the protest held in various parts of the city. He feared that those Muslim youth were likely to be implicated in false cases so as to instill fear among them. He demanded that the State Government take stern action against the police personnel who subjected Muslim youth to torture. Further, he demanded the withdrawal of all cases registered against Muslim youth during the protests. (Maxim News)
