Congress Leaders Held For Staging Dharna At BIE
Hyderabad, April 29 (Maxim News): Opposition parties plan to lay a siege to the Intermediate Board on Monday was successful. Leaders and activists of Congress, CPI, Janasena and others staged a dharna before the Board office and raised slogans against the officials and the State government.
The police intervened and took several Congress leaders into preventive custody. The police arrested former ministers G. Geeta Reddy and Mohammad Ali Shabbir and whisked them away to nearby police stations. Similarly, senior Congress leaders like Ponnam Prabhakar, V. Hanumantha Rao, Manavata Roy, former MLA Kuna Srisailam Goud were also taken into custody by the police.
CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and TTDP State president L. Ramana were also arrested and sent to police stations.
Speaking on the occasion, the Opposition leaders demanded that the government take stern action against the responsible officials of the Board. They also demanded that the State government take action against Globarena firm, which was the prime accused in the Intermediate Board results controversy.
Meanwhile, Congress party leaders addressed a letter to Telangana State Election Commissioner V Nagi Reddy urging him to issue directions to the police for the release of all the Congress leaders, including MPTC and ZPTC candidates, who have been kept under house arrest. They complained to the SEC that the Congress leaders were arrested with an intention to prevent them from taking part in the dharna program called by the party to lay a siege before the Intermediate Board office.
