Danam Nagender Resignation Speculation Amid MLA Disqualification Probe
- Danam Nagender faces MLA disqualification notices and political scrutiny
- Congress meetings and resignation talks as Speaker investigates MLA defections
Danam Nagender Resignation | Hyderabad, Nov 21: Speculation is mounting in political circles that Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender may resign from his position amid ongoing disqualification proceedings.
The Telangana Assembly Speaker has issued notices to Danam Nagender and other defected MLAs for switching their loyalty from the BRS party to the Congress.
However, Danam Nagender has not submitted explanations to the Speaker, raising questions about his intentions.
Political leaders suggest that Nagender, along with another MLA Kadiyam Srihari, might be inclined to resign, as discussed during a meeting with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy a few weeks ago.
The Speaker has completed the examination of eight defected MLAs, but Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari have yet to respond or submit affidavits reaffirming allegiance to BRS.
This lack of response has led the Speaker to issue fresh notices demanding immediate explanations. The Supreme Court has directed the Speaker to resolve the disqualification petitions within four weeks.
Meanwhile, the political environment is tense, with BRS leaders pressing for strict enforcement of defection laws.
Nagender’s failure to comply may influence the final decision of the Speaker, who may soon announce verdicts on these petitions.
Danam Nagender Resignation
Adding to the uncertainty, Danam Nagender travelled to New Delhi and held meetings with senior Congress leaders.
Sources indicate that Nagender is discussing possible resignation and the future political scenario with party officials.
His supporters believe he plans to resign, contest elections again, and negotiate a role in the state’s ruling coalition.
This move is seen as a strategy to avoid the consequences of disqualification, which would bar him from contesting elections for six years.
Congress leaders reportedly see a favorable political climate following their recent by-election victories, making a fresh electoral contest feasible.
Danam Nagender’s political journey has seen several shifts. He won as a Congress MLA in the 1990s, then contested and won on a TDP ticket in 2004.
Nagender returned to Congress later, winning the Khairatabad assembly constituency in 2009. Recently, he joined the BRS, won the 2023 assembly election with their backing, and later defected to Congress.
The current political developments surrounding his disqualification and possible resignation mark a critical point in his political career.
