The policy is expected to come into effect from July 1 and aims to accelerate electric mobility while reducing vehicle-related pollution in the national capital.

Under the approved policy:

  • Only electric auto-rickshaws will be eligible for new registrations from January 1, 2027.
  • Registration of new petrol and CNG two-wheelers will end from April 1, 2028.
  • Existing petrol and CNG two-wheelers already on the road are not covered by this restriction.

To encourage adoption of electric vehicles, the government has announced incentives during the initial phase of implementation.
