Hyderabad, July 11: Telangana CEO C. Sudarshan Reddy warns that duplicate voter registrations can attract one year in jail and a fine. Urges voters to complete the SIR enumeration process.
Addressing the media on Saturday, the CEO said the Election Commission has strengthened its mechanism to detect duplicate voter registrations using advanced digital tools.
Sudarshan Reddy said the Election Commission’s Demographically Similar Entries (DSE) software can easily identify duplicate voter registrations across constituencies and states.
He cautioned that any individual who deliberately registers as a voter in two places and exercises voting rights in both locations would face legal action.
The CEO also revealed that notices have already been issued in several cases involving suspected duplicate voter registrations.
The CEO reiterated that the primary objective of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral rolls while removing ineligible or duplicate entries.
He said the voter registration and electoral roll purification process is being carried out in a transparent manner across Telangana.
Explaining the enumeration process, Sudarshan Reddy said voters whose names appeared in the 2002 electoral rolls should mention those details in the enumeration form.
If such details are unavailable, applicants may provide their parents’ voter information. Those who do not have access to older records need not worry, he said, adding that they can leave those columns blank, fill in the current details and sign the form.
The CEO stated that only voters who submit their completed enumeration forms during the ongoing SIR exercise will be included in the next draft electoral roll.
He said the exercise covers approximately 3.38 crore voters across Telangana.
Sudarshan Reddy assured voters who are unable to submit the enumeration forms during the SIR process that they will still have an opportunity to secure their voting rights.
From August 1, eligible citizens can:
- Submit Form 6 for fresh voter registration.
- Submit Form 8 for corrections, modifications or transfer of voter details.
He urged all eligible voters to participate in the SIR exercise and complete the required formalities within the stipulated timeframe.
