ECI Gearing Up For Another Fight: Assembly Elections In 4 States Including J & K

Delhi/Hyderabad, June 21 (Maxim News):  The Election Commission of India (ECI) has started preparations for eh Assembly Elections of Haryana, Jharkhand, and Maharastra along with Jammu Kashmir.  It has been decided to announce the schedule by August 20.

In this regard, guidelines have been issued to the Chief Electoral Officers of the respective States and Union Territories.  The ECI has disclosed that the process of setting up new polling centers will start from June 25 wherever necessary to facilitate the efficient conduct of the elections.

It has been made clear that everyone who has completed 18 years of age by July 1 will be given the right to vote. It said that the draft list of voters will be announced on July 25 and after receiving objections till August 9, the final list will be released on August 20 as per the schedule.

After the dissolution of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in 2018, the constituencies were reorganized.  After that, this is the first time that Assembly elections are being held there.  In the recent general elections, there was a special response from the voters of Jammu and Kashmir.

EC has decided to expand the voter registration program in this order.  It directed the officials there to take steps to ensure that everyone who is eligible has the right to vote.  On the other hand, while the term of Haryana Assembly will end on November 11, the term of Maharashtra Assembly will end on November 26, and the term of Jharkhand Assembly will end on January 5, 2025.

In this context, the Central Election Commission hopes to conduct elections for all these simultaneously.  On the other hand, the ECI will hold a meeting with the top officials of the states where the elections will be held within a week.  (Maxim News)
