Engineers Should Draw Inspiration from Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung: Harish Rao
Hyderabad, July 11, 2025 — Paying rich tributes on the birth anniversary of Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur, senior BRS leader and MLA T. Harish Rao on Friday called upon engineers across Telangana to take inspiration from the legendary engineer, who played a pivotal role in shaping the region’s irrigation infrastructure.
Describing Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung as a visionary on par with stalwarts like Sir Arthur Cotton, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, and KL Rao, Harish Rao said the contributions of Jung to Telangana’s irrigation sector remain unmatched. “His engineering genius laid the foundation for major irrigation projects that have sustained generations of farmers,” he noted.
Nizam Sagar’s Legacy and Revival
Harish Rao recalled that the iconic Nizam Sagar project, designed and executed under the leadership of Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung during the Nizam era, was revived by the BRS government by linking it with the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. “It was a tribute to the engineering brilliance of Jung that the project was brought back to life,” he said.
He also acknowledged that it was former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao who officially declared Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung’s birth anniversary as Telangana Engineers’ Day, ensuring his legacy is remembered and celebrated annually.
Engineers Key to Telangana’s Progress
Harish Rao praised the engineering community for their contributions to Telangana’s rapid infrastructure development and urged them to continue working with dedication and innovation. “In today’s world of evolving technology and infrastructure needs, our engineers must take inspiration from pioneers like Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung to build a better and self-sufficient Telangana,” he emphasized.
The tribute serves as a reminder of the enduring value of visionary leadership in engineering and its transformative impact on society.
