Expired Seeds of Paddy, Maize Worth Rs 1.9 Cr Seized in Siddipet
Siddipet: Mulugu police seized paddy and maize seeds that were past their expiry date from Kurnool Seeds Company on the outskirts of Banda Mylaram village in Mulug Mandal on Tuesday.
Following a tip-off, a team led by SI Ranga Krishna, Assistant Director Agriculture Anil Kumar, and Agriculture Officer Pragathi raided the Kurnool Seeds Company and seized 1,850 packets of paddy seeds and 425 quintals of maize seeds. The value of the seeds is estimated at Rs 1.9 crore.
SI Ranga Krishna filed a case against the company’s Managing Director Srinivas.
ACP Gajwel P Narayana said that the management of Kurnool Seeds attempted to recycle the expired seeds by packing in the bags.
The ACP said that they were also carrying out an enquiry to find out the number of farmers who had purchased the expired seeds sold by the Kurnool Seeds so far.
Suggesting the farmers to buy seeds from fertiliser shops with a good history, Narayana called upon the farmers not to buy the loose seeds being sold by traders.
Warning the seed companies and fertiliser shop owners of strict action if they found selling spurious seeds, he said that they will invoke PD Act against such persons.
