Hyderabad: Meta has restored services across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger after a widespread outage affected thousands of users worldwide on Sunday, disrupting access to the company’s social media platforms for several hours.
The outage primarily impacted Facebook’s desktop version, while many Instagram users reported problems accessing their feeds and the mobile application. Messenger users also experienced issues with messaging and calling features.
Meta Restores Facebook, Instagram and Messenger Services
During the disruption, Facebook users attempting to log in through desktop browsers received an error message stating that their accounts were temporarily unavailable due to a site issue. Instagram users also reported seeing an error message indicating that the platform was working to fix the problem.
Outage tracking platform DownDetector recorded a sharp surge in complaints from users across multiple countries, with Facebook, Instagram and Messenger all experiencing service disruptions.
Many users reported that Facebook’s mobile app continued to function while the desktop version remained inaccessible. Others said Instagram feeds failed to load, and Messenger users encountered problems with voice and video calls.
Services gradually returned to normal after several hours, with users confirming that Facebook, Instagram and Messenger were functioning again.
Meta had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage or the exact duration of the disruption at the time services were restored.
The incident briefly affected users across several regions, highlighting the dependence of millions of people on Meta’s social media platforms for communication and daily online activity.
