Hyderabad, July 19: Tension resurfaced in Bahadurguda village of Shamshabad mandal in Rangareddy district after police detained protesting farmers around midnight and later removed their protest camp before installing fencing around the disputed land identified for the proposed bullet train hub.
The detained farmers were taken to different locations, including the Maheshwaram Police Station, and were released around 2.30 a.m. During the operation, officials dismantled the temporary protest tent set up by the farmers and completed the fencing work.
The unrest follows the government’s move to acquire about 650 acres in Bahadurguda, including 150 acres in Survey No. 28 and 500 acres in Survey No. 62, for the proposed bullet train hub.
On Saturday, farmers staged a protest against the land acquisition, alleging that the authorities proceeded without providing clarity on compensation and rehabilitation.
According to the protesters, police attempted to disperse the gathering, leading to heated arguments between farmers and officials. Barricades were placed on roads leading to the village, while farmers raised slogans and tried to stop the acquisition process.
Several political leaders and representatives of public organisations also attempted to visit the village in support of the farmers. However, police prevented them from entering the protest site.
The farmers demanded that the government hold discussions with them before proceeding with land acquisition. They said adequate compensation and a clear rehabilitation package should be announced before any further action is taken.
Officials continued to monitor the situation throughout the day as tension persisted in the village over the land acquisition issue.
